Volunteer award gives boost to athletic fields
Achievements
Thursday, September 20, 2007
John Hawk of Chatham, an Exclusive Agent with Allstate New Jersey Insurance Company, was recently awarded a 2007 Agency Hands in the Community Award (AHIC) for his commitment to volunteering in the community through the Chatham Athletic Foundation.
In addition to the award, a $500 grant from The Allstate Foundation will go toward the Chatham Athletic Foundation
The foundation works to promote youth athletics and to increase safety in athletics through public education programs. According to Hawk, the number of children playing on athletic fields in Chatham has increased by 43 percent, but the field capacity has remained the same. Overuse of the fields has increased deterioration, which further reduces the amount of available , and safe space.
Much of the initial work will focus on reducing local government burden of improving and maintaining athletic fields with Chatham Borough, Chatham Township and the Chatham School District. The foundation will apply the award to refurbishing a field or to support a foundation sports education safety initiative.
“We are proud to support John in such a worthwhile effort to help New Jerseyans through The Allstate Foundation,” said William P. Ballinger, president of Allstate New Jersey.![]()
